One of the few decisions I have made so far is my color theme. Even that took several months to decide. I wanted something different but at the same time classic. I also had to factor in the mood and setting of our wedding, which will be very casual, flirty and fun @ our beach ceremony, but a tad more dressy with an evening ambiance at the reception.
I changed my mind around 20x before settling on a palette that is vibrant enough to stand out against the backdrop of the beach, but elegant enough to work for an evening reception.
Pink and Navy. I love the color navy. It’s a timeless color that compliments nearly every shade in the rainbow. It can also be very neutral and vibrant at the same time given the correct setting. I also love gold. I used to have gold flats that I wore with EVERYTHING, so I have always been a fan of gold accents. I may find a way to work it into our wedding here and there as well.
It sounds like I have a grip on my color palette, but I was introduced to a new combination yesterday that has caught my eye and thrown my planning off balance.
I found this palette at stylemepretty.com, which like the site claims, is for the style obsessed bride. It’s a great blog to garner color ideas and trends. This palette introduces canary yellow and white as the offset to navy, which I adore. I can’t say enough about yellow, especially for the beach. Although it may be difficult to work into an evening theme.
I think the fiancĂ© prefers pink to yellow, but that may be because he’s not looking at the bigger picture
I love how I ask for his opinion since it’s ‘our’ wedding, but most of the time I just brush off his input when it comes to decisions like this. Haha.
So another conundrum down this wedding planning maze. Sigh.
UPDATE: My fiancĂ© has since changed his mind and now likes the navy/yellow combo. I think I may do both, one theme for the beach and another for the reception. I usually hate it when people have a rainbow of colors for a wedding, but I guess I’ll make the exception this time around since our ceremony and reception are taking place on 2 separate dates, one in September and the next in November.

this pink and navy choice is BEAUTIFUL! not what i had in mind when you said pink and navy!

I think you should do both color combinations – one for the reception, one for the ceremony.
The beach house photos you showed me in OBX is yellow, so I would do Navy Blue and yellow there. If you did fuschia and navy in OBX on a yellow house, I might be reminded of snow white’s dress.
Then I’d do Fuschia and Navy Blue at the reception in MD – it’s more evening.

Mmmm – navy and pink is so classic. I made an inspiration board awhile ago with that palette for a Miami wedding, and it definitely worked.

I’m doin the pink with navy blue theme. I have my girls in the navy blue dresses with fuschia gerbera daisies. I’m not sure what to do with the guys because I think Navy blue is too close to black and doesn’t go very well. Any suggestions??

I’m having the same problem. My bride maids are in navy dresses so I don’t want to put the groomsmen in nevy suits and black doesn’t seem like it would work very well. What did you do? Thanks
